A leadership masterclass – Suomi100: Hyvää itsenäispäivää Finland.

Can a small nation with 0.065% of worlds’ population become a global leader?

Can this small nation become a mediator for global peace?

Can it become an innovation machine?

The probability is quite low. But Finland and Finnish ‘Sisu’ is built on beating the odds and it has proven this time and again. The transformation over the last 100 years has been led by strong leadership and built on sound leadership principles.

Leadership is a key element to make an organization or a nation successful and Finnish leadership principles can directly be attributed to the Nordic culture:

–        Honesty

–        Equality

–        Consensus driven

–        Commitment to innovate

–         Continuously automate

Hostede cultural dimensions summarized it well. Finland (and Nordics) is a nation with

–         Low power distance

–         Low uncertainty avoidance

–         High feminism

–         High collectivism

This wonderful nation has solved the problems that the world faces today, and it is best that we start learning from their leadership style. It is time we celebrate Finnish success!

To all my Finnish friends and friends of Finland celebrating the 100 years of independence – Congratulations. I am glad that destiny brought us to this wonderful nation and you have played a major role in the person and the leader that I am today.

Thank you.

Hyvää itsenäispäivää.
